What Exactly Is Orion?
Orion is an indexer and search engine for torrent, usenet, and hoster links. Orion provides an easy-to-use API which is integrated into a wide range of Kodi addons and mobile apps, allowing you to quickly find links for your favourite movies and TV shows.

Orion is not a debird service, it does not host or distribute any files. Instead, Orion complements debrid services. A streaming addon retrieves links from Orion and then passes it on to a debird service for download. You can also use Orion without a debrid service, by either using a torrent streaming addon like Elementum, using a standalone download manager, or accessing hoster links that can be played directly without a debrid service.

Orion is a community-maintained database with a number of advantages over using local scrapers from your streaming addon. Firstly, scraping is a lot faster, since only a single request has to be made instead of contacting many different websites. Secondly, you have access to links from sites that were taken down or are otherwise blocked by your country or ISP. Thirdly, you have access to links from a number of premium sites that require a separate paid subscription. And lastly, Orion keeps an extensive set of metadata, including the video and audio details, file hashes, and user popularity, which makes picking the best link a lot easier.

Service Availability

Orion aims at providing users with fast and reliable access to the offered services and the underlying API and servers. However, we cannot guarantee consistent uptime of our servers and we might experience high loads during peak times. From time to time we will fix bugs, upgrade our API, and maintain our servers, which might cause the services to be slow or temporarily unavailable. Especially during the first months of operation, we will fine-tune our system which might result in down times. We do not provide any refunds in the case of down times. If the service is down for a very long time, we will extend users' subscriptions with the lost time incurred.

Service Usage

Orion users agree to use the service in a proper manner, not to unnecessarily overload the server, not to circumvent restrictions imposed by Orion, and not to exploit the service, server, and API in any way that will cause slowdowns, instability, or restrict the access of other users. If we detect any abuse of the system, the account will be closed and the user permanently banned without warning. Any remaining subscription time will be forfeited.

User Content

All the content available through Orion's API and website is scraped, processed, and submitted by users from the community. Users typically retrieve the data from other publicly available third-party websites. Orion does not collect any of the information itself, and due to the velocity of new data submitted by users, is unable to manually check each new entry. In addition, Orion does not create, distribute, or share any files. All data on Orion's server is purely textual. Due to the data being maintained by the community, certain links may be down or inaccessible, and certain metadata might be outdated. Users are advised to only submit data to and request data from Orion's API that adheres to the laws of their country. We do not take any responsibility for links and metadata submitted by users. If you find any broken links, incorrect metadata, or illegal content that you want taken down, please contact the Orion team. Orion is in compliance with 17 U.S.C. § 512 and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Please refer to Orion's DMCA Policy for more details.

Data Reliability

Data available through Orion's API is maintained by the user community. The metadata might therefore be inaccurate or outdated, and links might no longer work. Orion does not guarantee reliable data. If some entries are inaccurate, either ignore it and pick another one, or contact us to remove it.

User Tracking

Users' privacy is a priority for us. We do not keep any logs on our servers, which is also known as a zero-log policy. Hence, your IP address is never permanently stored. The moment you make a request to our servers, the last two octets of your IP address are anonymized. That is, half of the entire address is replaced by zeros, which makes it impossible to track it back to you. This anonymized IP address is never linked to your account or the requests you make, and is not stored on a permanent basis. We do us the anonymized IP address to determine the country from which the requests originate, in order to optimally place servers closer to our users. However, only the country is tracked, not the region, city, or coordinates. Since two octets of the IP address are anonymized, it is impossible to track the location on a regional or city basis. Even a country cannot be accurately determined by only two octets, but we only need a more-or-less rough estimation of the countries that our users come from. At no point in time do we keep any information that can be used to track users or violate their privacy.

User Privacy

Besides not keeping logs on our servers, we try our best to ensure you privacy. We only require your email address or username in order to create an account. Passwords are fully salted and hashed and can therefore not be used by potential hackers, or even by us. If you are concerned about your privacy, you can also use an alternative email address during registration. We do not recommend using a temporary email account, since you won't be able to reset your password or communicate with us if you lose access to that email account. We suggest to rather create a secondary, but permanent, email account; but this is by no means necessary for the normal user. We also offer pseudo-anonymous payments through cryptocurrencies and resellers. The crypto payment gateways accept privacy-oriented coins, such as Monero and Zcash, which are even more anonymous than other currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. We also do not share any of your information with any third parties for any reason whatsoever. There is no useful data to share in the first place.

EU Regulations

If you have read up until here, you will know that users' privacy is of utmost importance to us. We adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set forth by the European Union (EU). We collect as little data as possible. The following user details are stored permanently:
  • Email address or username
  • Salted and hashed password
  • Date and time account was registered and updated
  • Subscription package if any
  • Payment information if any
  • Custom data stored by the user, such as Wako parameters and Orion Kodi addon settings
  • Account data of external services if the user manually authorized them with Orion
The following information is stored temporarily:
  • Total number of requests made in the past week.
  • Anonymized IP address
This information is collected to ensure the day-to-day operation of the Orion website and API. No access logs are collected. No automated decisions are made with the information, except to determine if your subscription is still valid and whether or not you have reached your daily request limit. All data is stored in a secure hosting facility. We have made all necessary precautions from a technical and IT perspective to keep your data safe. No data is sold or shared with any third-party, or transferred to any server that is not under direct control of Orion. If you wish to close your account and completely remove all the data stored on you as described above, or have any additional question or comment on our privacy policy, please contact us.

Website Cookies

Orion uses cookies on its website. Most of the modern day interactive websites use cookies. By using Orion's website you consent to the use of cookies in accordance with Orion's privacy policy. We only use cookies to temporarily store a session ID once you logged in, and to manage the referral program. The session data does not contain any personal information, it is only a temporary and randomly generated ID. We do not use cookies for the API.

Website Iframes

Without prior approval and express written permission, you may not create frames around our webpage or use other techniques that alter in any way the visual presentation or appearance of our website.

Referral Program

Orion has a referral program. Users can share their referral link, and if the link is visited, a cookie is created. Orion is also part of third-party referral programs which might also store cookies for referral purposes.

Account Sharing

Accounts are limited to a single user and sharing the account or API key with other people is strictly prohibited. You are allowed to use the account and API key on different devices in the same household. If we detect account sharing or abuse, the account will be closed. Any remaining subscription time will be forfeited.

App Sharing

Sharing app API keys between different apps is strictly prohibited. App keys are used by developers if they want to integrate Orion's services into their website, addon, or other program. Each app must have its own unique key which is not allowed to be shared amongst developers or apps. A custom app API key is free and can easily be requested from the Orion team. If we detect app key sharing, the key will be revoked and the user's account will be closed. Any remaining subscription time will be forfeited. Honestly, there is no reason to use someone else's key, just request your own one.

Payment Refunds

Orion does not provide refunds for payments made. Due to the high fees imposed by payment gateways and the administrative tasks involved for refunds, it is impractical to reverse transactions. If there are disputes or problems with your subscription, we will look into the situation on an ad-hoc basis. If we agree on the dispute, we may upgrade your account or increase the remaining time on your subscription. However, we will not provide monetary refunds.

Do You Have Questions About Orion?

If you cannot find an answer, contact us.

How does Orion work?
Orion is a community maintained caching facility for links, hashes, containers, and corresponding metadata. Users who scrape other publicly available websites for torrent, usenet, and hoster links, submit their results to Orion. Subsequent users can then retrieve these cached results without having to go through the lengthy scraping process themselves. This drastically reduces the overall time to find links. Orion is especially useful for people with low-end devices, a slow internet connection, or people who are simply too impatient to wait a few minutes for the scraping process to finish.
What is the differnce between the daily limits?
Orion has three different daily limits, depending on which part of the API you query.
  1. Link Limit: The number of torrent, usenet, and hoster links you can retrieve per day. Each link is accompanied by detailed metadata. Links are used to retrieve the files through a third-party service.
  2. Hash Limit: The number of torrent and usenet hashes you can retrieve per day. Torrent containers (.torrent files) and usenet containers (.nzb files) do not contain an explicit hash. Hashes are used to do cache lookups on debrid services. By querying hashes from Orion, you can do cache inspection for usenet and torrent files, which would otherwise not be possible.
  3. Container Limit: The number of torrent and usenet containers you can download per day. Orion will try to avoid using this limit by converting torrent files into magnet links and allowing you to download the container from a third-party website. In case the third-party service is unavailable or requires a premium subscription, you can download the .torrent or .nzb file directly from Orion.
How are daily limits calculated?
The daily limits are calculated using a 24 hour sliding window. Therefore, limits are not reset at midnight, but are calculated on a continuous basis. With each query you submit to the API, a certain number of results are returned. If the total number of results you retrieved over the last 24 hours exceeds the limit of your subscription package, you will not be able to make any further requests for a while. In order to avoid reaching your daily limit, you can fine-tune your filters or set the maximum number of links returned by an API request. Alternatively, you can upgrade your subscription to increase the daily limit.
Does Orion provide access to files?
No. Orion does not create, host, or distribute any video files or streams. Orion's API handles purely textual data that was submitted by the user community. All links and metadata are retrieved from other publicly available websites. The links cached on Orion point to files on other servers which are not in any way affiliated with Orion. Orion can therefore be seen as a high-level search engine on top of other websites and indexes.
Which kind of links does Orion cache?
Orion caches links to torrent files and magnet links, usenet NZB containers, and files hosted on a wide variety of file servers and hosters. You can configure your filters to only return links for selected types.
Why are some links not working?
Links and metadata on Orion are automatically maintained by the community. Over time users add new links to Orion. If links are very old, they might not work anymore, especially links from hosters. Torrent and usenet links should work for longer periods. The Orion API provides filter options to remove old links and only return the most recent ones. Using this option will increase the likelihood of the link being operational.
Why is some metadata wrong or inaccurate?
Links and metadata on Orion are automatically maintained by the community. If a link was not updated in a while, the corresponding metadata might be outdated and inaccurate. Most of the metadata is static and will not change over time. However, some metadata will change. For instance, the number of torrent seeds might not represent the current count. The debrid cache status might also be wrong. If the cached status was updated a while back, the debrid servers might have removed the corresponding file in the meantime. Hence, even if API filters are configured to only return cached links, the cached status might have changed for some of the results.
Can I customize my searches and use filters?
Yes. We have a wide variety of options to fully customize queries and filter out links that do not meet your requirements. You can therefore configure your filters to only return links according to your preferences and reduce the number of daily links that you use.
Why does Premiumize streaming not work?
Premiumize imposes restrictions on the generated streaming link. Only the IP address that initiated the download can access the file. The device that starts the download must have the same IP address as the device that plays the video. If you for instance access Orion's website from your phone and send the link from the website to Premiumize, but then stream the video via Chromecast, AirPlay, Kodi, or other media players, both your phone and the media device you use for streaming must use the same network connection or VPN server.
Do you track users or keep logs?
We do not keep any logs on our servers, meaning that your IP address is not stored. Users' privacy is very important to us and we have implemented a number of features to keep you as anonymize as possible.
Although we have a zero-log policy, we do track the country users make requests from in order to help us optimally place our servers closer to users. The moment your request arrives at our servers, we anonymize the last two octets of your IP address, that is, replacing half of the address with zeros. This ensures that it cannot be traced back to you. EU regulations dictate that only a single octet must be anonymized. We ensure even better anonymity, by applying it to two octets. We only keep track of the country, but not the region, city, or coordinates. Technically two octets are not even enough to accurately track the country, but we only need a more-or-less rough estimation of the country.
We also do not store information connecting your account to API requests. Hence, there is no way of correlating requests made to the server to a specific user.
How do you ensure users' privacy?
We do the following to ensure users' privacy and anonymous access:
  1. We do not keep access logs on our servers. Your IP address is therefore never stored.
  2. We anonymize your IP address before using it for a country lookup. At no point in time do we keep more accurate location information than the country. The anonymized IP address can never be used to track you, it will most likely not even be enough to accurately determine your country. Refer to the tracking/logging FAQ for more information.
  3. We do not store information that can be used to connect API requests to a specific user account. Hence, there is no data that indicates that a user made a specific API query.
  4. We only require an email address and password during registration. If you are really concerned about the privacy of your email address, you can always use an alternative one. We do not recommend using a temporarily email account, since you will not be able to reset your password or communicate with us if you lose access to that account. We rather recommend creating a secondary, but permanent, email account. But this is not necessary for most users, only for the very paranoid ones.
  5. We fully salt and hash passwords. Hence, even in the unlikely case that our servers get hacked, intruders will not be able to see your password or use it on other websites in case you use the same password for multiple accounts. Passwords are also hashed before being send to our servers, protecting you against man-in-the-middle attacks. Due to password hashing, not even we can see your password. In addition, we have an API key that is separate to your password. So you can change your API key if it was compromised, without having to change your password.
  6. We offer various pseudo-anonymous payments options using cryptocurrencies and resellers. If you want to even further improve your anonymity, you can use privacy-oriented coins, such as Monero or Zcash, which are even more private. The crpyo payment gateways accept a variety of different coins and tokens.
  7. You can connect to Orion over the Tor network for onion-based routing and encryption.
  8. We do not share information with any third parties. We have so little data on users, that there is no data to share in the first place. We do not sell data to other companies, or in any way share information with other websites, institutions, or governments.
  9. Here we like to iterate again that we did everything from a developer's perspective to ensure your privacy. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Do you offer private payments?
Yes. We offer private payments through cryptocurrencies and reseller vouchers. The crypto payment gateways accept a variety of different coins and tokens, including privacy-oriented Monero and Zcash.
Do you offer Tor access?
Yes. You can connect to Orion via the Tor network. The website is located at http://orionhoivqjwao3roxgftsev4fx2xumuyuzhk4fqpd45vlwh2qzo7iyd.onion and the API is available at http://api.orionhoivqjwao3roxgftsev4fx2xumuyuzhk4fqpd45vlwh2qzo7iyd.onion. For more information on Tor, visit https://torproject.org.
Which payment options do you accept?
We currently only accept Bitcoin and Altcoins directly. However, there are various options that allow you to purchase crypto using PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, credit or debit card, Google or Apple Pay, bank transfers and a range of other payment methods. Alternatively, you can buy a crypto gift card or purchase a voucher from one of our official resellers using credit card or other means.
Why do packages have different prices?
Packages have different prices due to difference daily limits and subscription durations. Additionally, some payment options have higher prices due to extra fees imposed by payment gateway or reseller. The cheapest option is paying with crypto, which does not have any additional fees.
What is the difference between the premium packages?
The premium packages differ in their daily limits, which determine how many links you can retrieve per day and how many server resources you can use for advanced features.
Why was my subscription not upgraded after paying the reseller?
Resellers have a separate website which is not connected to ours. If you complete the payment on the reseller's website, your subscription will not automatically upgrade on our website. Instead the reseller will send you a voucher code via email and/or show the code on their website after the payment was completed. Enter the voucher code here on our website and click the "Redeem" button. If you have not received a voucher code, please read the help section below addressing this issue.
Why did I not receive my voucher from the reseller?
Resellers release the voucher code via email and/or on their website right after the payment was completed. The voucher code has to be redeemed here on our website in order to upgrade your subscription. If you did not receive a voucher code, follow these steps:
  1. If you cannot find the reseller's email in your inbox, check your spam and trash folders.
  2. You can track your order and find the voucher code on the resellers' websites. KeyOneClick orders can be tracked here: https://keyoneclick.com/trackorder and UTop here: https://utop.us/track-order
  3. If you created an account on the reseller's website before completing the purchase, you can login and find the voucher code under your account's order history.
  4. When using instant payment methods, like credit card, the vouchers should be sent out immediately after the payment was finalized. However, if you pay with crypto or gift cards, the payment will be processed manually by the reseller. This can take anywhere from a day to two weeks.
  5. If you still cannot find your voucher code or entered an incorrect email address on the reseller's website, try to contact the reseller. Both KeyOneClick and UTop have a live chat facility on their website. Check out the speech bubble icon at the bottom-right corner of their websites. If you contact them via email or leave a message in their chat window because customer support is not live, make sure to check your spam folder for their email reply.
  6. If all else fails, please contact us and we will try to sort out the issue.
Can I integrate Orion with my own app?
Absolutely yes. You will need a custom app API key to get started, which can be requested easily and for free once logged into the Orion website. Please do not use the key of an existing app, but request a new one for each app you write. Once you have a key, you can start developing using our documentation. You can either use our RESTful JSON-based HTTP API, or if you develop something for Kodi, utilize our easy-to-use addon which only requires a single function call. If your app gains traction, we might consider giving you a free premium account for development purposes. Contact us for more information.
May I share my app API key?
No. If you are a developer and like to integrate Orion with your website, addon, or other program, please request a custom app API key. App keys are free and easy to obtain, so there is no reason why you should ever use another app's key. If you develop multiple apps, please request a separate key for each of them. We are more than happy to hand out multiple keys. App keys can be requested once logged into the website panel.
Does Orion offer support for Kodi?
Yes. We have a module addon for Kodi that provides an easy-to-use Python interface for quick integration into your own Kodi addon. You can retrieve links from Orion with a single function call. Other features to access user account information and server stats is also available. The addon has its own settings, so that users have to setup their account and configure their filters only once. All external addons that integrate the Orion addon can then make use of these universal settings, or alternatively overwrite them with their own custom configurations.

Using Orion For Free

At Orion, we strive to provide an affordable and reliable service. Since our inception, we have offered free accounts to accommodate people who cannot afford to pay for the service. However, over the past months we have seen a massive influx of new free users, which in turn has enormously increased the traffic to our server. This has started to cause stability issues, especially during peak times. We therefore had no choice but to curb traffic from free accounts to ensure reliability for everyone. It would be unfair towards paying subscribers for having to deal with downtimes, simply because thousands of free users flood the system.

Currently more than 99% of our userbase runs on free accounts. Most of them use Orion via Stremio. Stremio does not have its own debrid functionality, meaning that any debrid features are handled by Orion. Resolving links through a debrid service is an expensive operation that takes considerably longer than any other API call, since it has to connect to third-party servers and requires additional processing. Sometimes during peak times there are just too many free users streaming through Stremio that Orion struggles to keep up with the demand.

We therefore had to introduce restrictions for free accounts. Orion will limit the number of debrid resolvings that free accounts can make during times of high demand. This is an automated and dynamic process. As the demand goes down, free accounts will have acess again. Note that high demand is typically during US evening times. Most of the remaining day the server is underutilized and will not have any limitations.

At the moment, this mainly applies to debrid functionality in our API. Most apps and do not utilize these features and are therefore unaffected by the changes, including all Kodi addons. The restrictions mostly impact free Stremio users. Also note that simply retrieving links from Orion is also not subject to these restrictions, even if you have a free account, since those operations can be handled quickly on the Orion server without having to interact with any third-party servers. However, there is an exception to the rule. Even link retrieval might be restricted for free users under extreme server loads, although this should be a rare occurrence. And it goes without saying that this only applies to free users – premium users do not have to worry about any of this.

Free users have the following options:

  1. Wait for the traffic to dial down and then try again.
  2. Upgrade to a premium Orion account, which are exempt from any of the new restrictions.
  3. Use another app or any Kodi addon which has its own local debrid code. You can still retrieve links from Orion using a free account, but the debrid resolving is done by the app on your device, instead of going through Orion.
